GMHC Services

GMHC serves all individuals living with and affected by HIV/AIDS, regardless of gender, sexual orientation, or HIV status.

GMHC helps clients with life matters that may not line up specifically with another agency service. These include assistance with navigating government entitlement and benefits programs such as social security, public housing, and food and nutrition. In addition, our staff can liaise with case managers at other agencies and organizations where our clients might need services and help them navigate any issues that they might be experiencing.

The access to healthcare unit helps clients and others needing assistance navigate benefits, entitlements, and insurance issues, both public and private. Our certified staff can assist with accessing benefits through:

  • AIDS Drug Assistance Program (ADAP)
  • New York State of Health Marketplace
  • Medicaid
  • Medicare
  • COBRA

GMHC’s Testing Center provides free and confidential testing for HIV, chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis, and hepatitis C. We provide each client with education and counseling sessions, and we ensure clients are linked to medical care for the treatment of HIV/STIs and the initiation of PrEP/PEP.

Supportive housing and financial management are a part of our comprehensive approach to support the health and well-being of our clients living with HIV/AIDS. People who are stably housed are more likely to adhere HIV treatment and have positive health outcomes. In addition, financial management skills help ensure our clients can plan a monthly budget and remain stably housed.

We have a staff of experienced attorneys, accredited immigration advocates, and volunteers who provide free legal services to people living with HIV/AIDS in NYC. We provide direct legal advocacy, representation, pro se advice, and appropriate referrals.

Our meals and nutrition services support the health and well-being of our clients living with HIV/AIDS. Each year, we provide our clients with over 100,000 meals. Among our services, we offer nutrition counseling, nutrition education groups, monthly food vouchers, and a weekly grab and go food distribution.
